HONOR GUARD

Did you know that our VFW Post, Hobart Beach #1693 has a very active Honor Guard detail, with up to 15 active members?  The VFW Honor Guard has evolved over the years, with its' roots tracing back to the 21-gun salute provided to men killed in World War I.  Our Post Honor Guard has been dedicated to military funeral honors since our inception in the 1950's and our mission is to ensure that every veteran receives the honors they deserve as they are laid to rest.  Our Honor Guard detail travels extensively in Kentuckiana area for funerals.  Members come from different branches of the military and eras of service, united by a common cause.  Depending on the type of service, whether graveside or funeral home, our Honor Guards' dedicated and professional member can accomplish not only a "Pass and Review" ceremony where members pay tribute to deceased veterans at a funeral home, in combination with graveside services which can include the folding and presentation the American flag to the next of kin, the 21 - gun salute and the playing of Taps, along with the presentation of spent cartridges of the 21 - gun salute; and a sacred set of three shells in a case representing Honor, Duty and Country.  Our Honor Guard considers each Honor Guard ceremony a sacred and time-honored privilege to complete.  We are always looking for more members of our Post, Auxiliary and family to join our Honor Guard.  If interested, please seek our any officer at your Post or email us!
